There’s no better way to enjoy the beauty of Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains than by visiting our local parks. Within a quarter mile of Adirondack Sunrise Lodge, you’ll find prime picnic spots and beaches, a park with an outdoor amphitheater, playgrounds, festival commons, historic landmarks and dog parks – all with spectacular views of the lake and mountains.
Shepard Park
This multi-use park is located in the heart of Lake George Village, and features a large outdoor amphitheater. Enjoy free concerts throughout the summer on the large shaded hill, or watch the Thursday night fireworks over the lake. There’s also a playground, walking paths, benches and a sandy beach with large swimming area and lifeguards.
Charles R. Wood Park
Located on Beach Road, across from the Lake George Steam Boat Company docks, this 12.5-acre park sits on the former site of Gaslight Village theme park. The park’s Festival Commons hosts several year-round events, including the Adirondack Wine & Food Festival, the Lake George Arts & Crafts Festival, and the winter Ice Castles, as well as concerts, farmers markets, car, motorcycle and boat shows. There’s also a playground, a skate park, an interactive water feature, and an environmental interpretative area.
Battlefield Park
Perfect for picnics and lawn games, this 35-acre park offers plenty of open space, as well as picnic tables, a pavilion and restrooms. Located on Beach Road, adjacent to the Charles R. Wood Park, Battlefield Park is also an important historical site. Battles from the French & Indian War and the Revolutionary War were fought on this land, and the park includes the remains of Old Fort George and several statues of historical figures.
Million Dollar Beach
At the southernmost point of Lake George, Million Dollar Beach offers a 51-acre expanse of sand and designated swimming areas with lifeguards. The state-run beach also features a large parking lot, a volleyball court, picnic tables and grills, a snack bar and bathhouse with restrooms, showers and changing facilities. A boat launch adjacent to the beach includes a free boat inspection and washing station to prevent the spread of invasive species.
Usher Park
Located north of Million Dollar Beach on Route 9L, Usher Park is quieter and smaller, making it ideal for families with small children. There’s a beach with lifeguards and a shallow swimming area, as well as a parking lot and restrooms, a playground and picnic area with grills, and tennis and basketball courts. State workers in golf carts are usually on site to shuttle families up and down the hill to the beach, if needed.
Dog Beach
Located on Beach Road between the Lake George Steamboat Company docks and Million Dollar Beach, this stretch of state-owned land isn’t an official beach, but it’s a popular spot for those with furry family members. The sandy shoreline is perfect for dogs to play off-leash and swim in the lake, while their owners relax on the beach and grass area. There are no lifeguards or facilities on site, however, there are a limited number of benches, as well as trash cans for cleaning up after your pet.
Lake George Recreation Park
Located at the end of Transfer Road, Lake George Recreation Park is open year-round and free to the public. This park features sports fields and basketball courts, as well as hiking trails and 4+ miles of single and double track mountain bike trails. There are also two fenced-in dog parks for small and large breeds, and cross-country ski trails and hills for snow tubing in winter. Parking and restrooms are available on site.
